Stoppage time PK lifts Lakeland Tropics to 1-1 tie in USL League Two season opener

LAKELAND, Fla. – A penalty kick in stoppage time helped lift the Lakeland Tropics to a 1-1 draw with Daytona SC in the USL League Two regular season opener Saturday night at Bryant Stadium.

Adrian Gutierrez slammed home a PK in the dying minutes of the game to salvage the tie. Both teams had penalty kicks in the second half. The Tropics goalkeeper Joel Serrano stopped Creggton Charlton on his attempt, and Daytona netminder Paul Harbecht stopped Cian Lynch on another PK about 10 minutes after Serrano's stop.

J.R. Cozine scored in the final 10 minutes of the first half to give Daytona a 1-0 lead.

The Tropics will be on the road next Saturday, May 18 to meet Weston FC before returning to Bryant Stadium on Saturday, May 25 for the first of two regular season matchups against The Villages SC, who defeated the Tropics on May 7 in a U.S. Open Cup matchup.
